Martin McDonagh’s dark drama HANGMEN will debut on Broadway this spring. The Olivier Award-winning Royal Court Theatre production, which transferred to the West End prior to making its U.S. debut, enjoyed a sold-out run Off-Broadway at Atlantic Theater Company in 2018. Opening night is set for March 19, 2020.

Set in Oldham, England, in 1965, when capital punishment for murder was being banned in Britain, the play focuses on the second-best executioner in Britain dealing with his government’s decision to abolish his favourite form of doing away with prisoners. Now running a bar, he’s disrupted by a mysterious visitor from London.

The play will be directed by Matthew Dunster and produced by Robert Fox, Jean Doumanian and Elizabeth I. McCann. It is scheduled to begin previews Feb. 28 and open March 19 at the Golden Theater.
