Celine Cotran

Celine is an award-winning British-Lebanese writer and director, with a focus on genre bending stories in Film and TV. Her previous work has been supported by Sky, the BFI, Doha Film Institute, Trademark Films and Goldfinch: First Flights.

She is currently developing her first feature, LEGS, based on her proof-of-concept short starring Laura Carmichael (Downton Abbey). It is a darkly comic body horror, exploring infertility. The short was awarded Goldfinch: First Flights’ 2021 film award, premiered in competition at Sitges Film Festival, and has screened at many BAFTA and Academy Award Qualifying Festivals.

 

LAYLA IN DREAMLAND is a feature developed with BFI Network and has been supported by Edinburgh International Film Festival Talents 2019 and Talent Lab Connects 2021, Berlinale Talents 2020 and London Film Festival’s Production Finance Market 2020.
Writing for TV, her YA supernatural comedy-drama, VICIOUS CYCLE (previously BLOOD TYPES), featured in Sky Table Reads 2022, and MICE OF THE UNDERGROUND was shortlisted for Sundance Episodic Labs. Writer’s room credits include MBC|Starling Entertainment’s AIR MEDS. She is currently adapting the memoir AM I UGLY? based on influencer Michelle Elman’s debilitating experience with Hydrocephalus.

 

Her first play, ELEVEN DAYS, is a political satire based on the tumultuous eleven days Anthony Scaramucci spent as White House Communications Director under the Trump regime.

 

Her shorts have won and been nominated for awards at BAFTA|Academy Qualifying festivals, and received nearly a million views online. Her micro-budget short, DISPOSABLE (written and directed during the pandemic 2020), was nominated for Best Screenwriter in the BAFTA qualifying Underwire Film Festival 2022.
