MANIC STREET CREATURE by Maimuna Memon at Edinburgh Fringe August 3-28
August 2, 2022 |

A fresh and thrilling take on a modern love story, from the composer of critically acclaimed ‘Electrolyte’. Love, lust and late nights collide in a musical roller-coaster that takes the audience through the euphoria and distress of two young people dealing with their own and each other’s mental health. Ria is working with her band to complete a new album – songs charting the rise and fall of a recent relationship. But the more Ria progresses, the more she’s drawn back to the darkness of her troubled relationship, until we’re not sure where reality ends and memory begins.

Maimuna Memon is a Lancashire born writer, composer, musician and actor. She is Co-Founder and Resident Composer of Wildcard Theatre Company.

Maimuna has written music and lyrics for ‘Electrolyte’ (a gig theatre piece which had a sell out run at the Edinburgh Fringe 2018/19 and won the Scotsman Mental Health Award), ‘Nine Lessons and Carols’ at the Almeida Theatre and ‘Welcome To Iran’ for the National Theatre and Stratford East (cancelled due to the pandemic but then adapted for BBC Radio 3).

Maimuna is commissioned by The Bush and Bolton Octagon Theatre for her new musical ‘Sparrow Girl’, an autobiographical four woman show about choice and heritage, due to open at The Bush in 2023. She is also in development with Merman for her television show ‘Third Culture Kid’ which explores what it means to be a mixed race Muslim woman in modern day Britain.
