David Almond is the first Children’s author, and first writer from the UK, to win the Nonino International Prize

This is the first time the prize has been awarded to a writer for children, and the first time to a writer from the UK. Previous winners include Ismail Kadare,Chinua Achebe,VS Naipaul and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
