Suzette Coon

Suzette’s first feature MOSHE MAKES WAVES – the first and only Hassidic Jewish Surfing movie – was optioned by Frank Mannion of Princess Productions and she was one of the initial writers on the groundbreaking late-night ITV1 soap NIGHT & DAY.

Also for television,  STRETCH MARKS is a long-running drama series focusing on the lives, loves and breaking waters of an ante-natal group and she is currently developing WHAT NOW?,  a drama series about empty nesters trying to spread their wings rather than peck each other’s eyes out!   BARE, a six-part comedy-drama web series about a group of London twenty-something women is currently showing on the Filmaka Channel.

Suzette is also a playwright.  ABOUT GIRLS, a play about the dangers of internet chatrooms for girls was developed, and had a performed reading with Watford Palace Youth Theatre.  IN BED WITH MY MOTHER has just reached the Tobacco Factory’s Script Space shortlist.  It was described  as ‘theatrically inventive, assured in its execution and with a clear story to tell about motherhood, depression and teenage carers trapped in an imposed cycle of behaviour from those who rely upon them. The fluidity of form and the sense of injustice within the story came through very clearly, and the surprising details such as the Heath Ledger references gave the play a unique perspective on the scenario’. Suzette has just completed, OUR CHILDREN WILL BE NEXT, a futuristic, darkly absurdist piece about the ultimate consequences of capitalism on our children.

In addition to her writing, Suzette produces Little Pieces of Gold, a regular showcase for new writing which stages the work of emerging writers at the Southwark Playhouse.
