Paven Virk

Paven is part of the prestigious Guiding Lights 2016/2017 scheme with Simon Beaufoy as her mentor. She is under commission to write a feature MUSLIM GIRLS with Ecosse Films and will shortly start in a writers room for a female led TV series. She is also under commission to Radio 4 to write a dark psychological drama about a mother and daughter and their estranged relationship.

Paven’s comedy drama SAVE OUR SCHOOL DINNERS…JAMIE is due to tour theatres in the Midlands and London in April/May 2018. She is also commissioned as 1 of 5 writers for MEET ME AT THE RUINS 2018 production for The Cathedral/The Belgrade Theatre.

Previously Paven has been part of the writers room for SKINS (last series), Emma Frost’s BIRTHDAY GIRL (Tiger Aspect/CH4) and ACKLEY BRIDGE by Ayub Khan Din (The Forge/CH4). She is adapting SAVE OUR SCHOOL DINNERS…JAMIE for screen.

Paven founded Second Generation Theatre Company at 16 when her play was selected to be part of a new writing festival at The Belgrade Theatre, whilst still attending their Youth Theatre she wrote two plays with The Belgrade Theatre/Multi Arts Nation comedy GIRLIE TALK (a comedy drama about a friendship between two girls, one Asian and one African Caribbean, who enter womanhood together but soon find out how different their cultural life choices are) and music play BOY MEETS GIRL (a broken Asian girl who speaks to her dead mother’s grave falls for a homeless ‘Beatles’ playing busker and life changes forever).

Paven began writing full time in 2010 after her sample play ENGLANDS LANE, a dark tale looking at the girl gang culture, based on her real life experiences did the rounds and gained her industry recognition.

Paven was named one of Screen International ‘STARS OF TOMORROW’ 2010, was part of Working Title’s residency at the Hay Festival in 2011. Took part in a 10 week at a National Theatre Studio Writing attachment leading to a CONNECTIONS commission and was part of the BBC TV DRAMA LAB.

She has been on the Royal Court Young Writers Programme, the NFTS Screenwriting for Film & TV Course, Theatre Royal Stratford East Musical Theatre Writing Residency and LFS original TV series writing boot camp. Her plays have been on at Hampstead Theatre, National Theatre, Connections, Belgrade Theatre, Paines Plough (COME TO WHERE I’M FROM), Old Rep, Pleasance (Edinburgh).

In 2012 after two and a half busy years of writing, Paven took a break to have her son and returned in 2016.
