Lisa is recipient of the NEA/TCG Playwrights Residency Award and winner of the BBC International Playwriting Award and a finalist for a United States Artists Fellowship.
Her plays include Celestial Bodies Trilogy, Wal-martyrs, Manny and Chicken, Rock Ends Ahead, winner of the BBC International Playwriting Award, The Bones of Danny Winston, In the Wake of the Graybow Riots, and Twenty-One Positions with Naomi Wallace and Abed Fattah AbuSrour. She has received commissions from the Guthrie Theatre, the BBC, the International Writing Program, Ensemble Studio Theatre, the Sloan Foundation and fellowships from the NEA, CEC Artslink International, and the Iowa Arts Council. Produced nationally and internationally, her work is published in American Theatre Magazine, Performing Arts Journal, Broadway Play Publishing, NoPassport, Playwrights Canada Press, among others. Her essays are also published in Out of Silence, and The American Theatre Reader, the best writing of the last 25 years of American Theatre Magazine, the Dramatist Guild Magazine, the New York Times and elsewhere.
Lisa is currently working with New York City’s InParentheses.org on The Iphigenia Project, a multi-year multidisciplinary collaboration with filmmaker Irina Patkanian, director Marion Schoevaert and composer Kinan Azmeh in response to the global refugee crisis. She an associate professor of playwriting at the University of Iowa’s Playwrights’ Workshop.
