Ben Bickerton

Ben is currently writing a black comedy-drama, MY LIFE IN ANALYSIS with Ecosse, has a three-part thriller, THE SCREENS in development at Leopard Films, and has a second thriller, THE PACT at ITV studios.

Ben is a screenwriter, producer and script-consultant.

Robert Cooper at Great Meadow Productions optioned Ben’s first feature film, THE TIN POT WAR: a tragic-comedy following the lives of two boys growing up in the eighties as their families quietly implode.

Starting his career script-editing NORTH SQUARE, a multi-award winning drama series for Channel Four, he then joined the BBC where he worked on a range of drama series and script-edited the critically acclaimed film, FEAR OF FANNY.  Ben went on to produce THE AFTERNOON PLAYS and THE CURSE OF STEPTOE. The Curse of Steptoe attracted the highest viewing figures ever for a BBC4 programme, won Best Single Drama at the RTS and was nominated for a BAFTA for best actor (Jason Isaacs).

Since leaving the BBC Ben has script-consulted on AN ENGLISHMAN IN NEW YORK, and created a BBC2 film, EXCLUDED, to great acclaim. Sam Wollaston (The Guardian) called it, “…brilliant – immediate, tense, funny, sad, touching, relevant” and it received special mention from Phil Hogan (The Observer) as one of 2010’s TV highlights.
