Lucy Prebble amongst the 10 finalists for the SUSAN SMITH BLACKBURN PRIZE

Lucy Prebble has been shortlisted for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, one of the most prestigious playwriting awards in the US. The award, which was set up in 1978, is given annually to honour talented female playwrights. Prebble has been recognised for THE EFFECT, the critically acclaimed play about medical testing, produced by Headlong Theatre. Prize winner will be announced late this February – good luck Lucy!

A monograph of Bernard Kops’ entire life work, FANTASIST, LONDON JEW, APOCALYPTIC HUMORIST has been published by Fairleigh Dickinson University Press, sold by Rowman and Littlefield. It has been written by professor, William Baker and Professor Jeantette Roberts Shumaker of North Illinois University. A prolific poet, Bernard Kops has authored a long pamphlet poem and eight poetry collections.

Rotterdam awards Kasia Klimkiewicz’s LA ISLA the Canon Tiger Award for Short Films

Congratulations to Kasia Klimkiewicz and Dominga Sotomayor for being awarded the Canon Tiger Award for Short Films in Rotterdam this week for LA ISLA. The jury described LA ISLA as “An astonishingly strong, atmospheric film where temporality and space are captured in such a delicate and sensual way that the tension of drama haunts you deeply.”

West Yorkshire Playhouse Youth Theatre will be performing Evan Placey’s GIRLS LIKE THAT at the Houses of Parliament on 20th January!

Fantastic news! A section of GIRLS LIKE THAT will be performed at the Houses of Parliament on Monday 20 January at an event organised by the charity Young Minds. The play was written by Evan Placey and explores the daily issues faced by teenagers – sexuality, body image and cyber bullying. Youth Theatre director, Gemma Woffinden, comments “We are very proud to be part of this event, and that the high quality performance work of our Youth Theatre is to be celebrated in such a way that we can support a valuable campaign that acknowledges the challenges faced by young people today.”
